Potato cyst nematode (Globodera rostochiensis) is a major parasitic
nematodes on potato. Experiments were conducted in 2009 and
2013 to control G. rostochiensis
using Pseudomonas diminuta. The study
was begun by identification of biochemical and activity test of P. diminuta isolates against G. rostochiensis. Furthermore, P. diminuta was tested for its ability to produce plant
growth regulators and siderophore. The next stage was the formulation of P. diminuta using different carrier such as peat and talc powder followed
by test of its formulation against G. rostochiensis. The results showed that P. diminuta
reduced the number of cysts in 100 g soil up to 46% compared
to controls. P. diminuta produced plant growth regulators such as cytokinins (195.4 ppm) and giberellin (18.6 ppm)
but siderophore was not present. The test of P.
diminuta formulation revealed that P. diminuta formulated in
talc carrier slightly decreased the number of juvenile nematodes in 1 g of
potato roots to 67.61%, while P. diminuta
formulated in peat powder carrier only decreased to 14.08%.
